ah that fun time again. when young thoughts turn too .."i should do my employee performance review". yes.. i know one can "hardly wait". i think of it all year. no really i do. nothing more fun than a truly sadistic UI with pointers all over f**** ing hell and gone for s*** like "i have achieved my life goals by being in this vortex of hell called my company" etc etc.

they should just have a damm sign over the door "work will set you free". there i said it!

stupid employee review.

big tweeter blowup of 08. part 2
The prior post is a “who are they” and this is “what happened”. I arrive and paid the $20 fee to get in. the attendant gives me a raffle ticket. I go get a beer and wander around for about two hours. Looking at the setups, talking etc. During this time I see one of my friends. Mr k. We say hi and for the most part he is there to swap and perhaps buy. I’m just looking. He continues on his way. We talk for maybe 15 minutes and later for another 15?

The raffle starts. At the time I know they are raffling audio parts but not what kind. Just about everyone one there is gathered around. Something like 50 or so. They read off the numbers on the third try my number comes up. They say I can take the tweeters or an unfinished amp. I decide to take the tweeters. The guy who presents them to me says they are worth $1200.

Now I want to note what was in my mind at this moment. I’m happy I won them. But, 1) I could sell the tweeters as I have no good use for them. I could make a few hundred and someone who does what them..gets them. 2) I could take the unfinished amp but I wouldn’t be able to sell it. I also have no good use for it and it would eventually get tossed in the trash. Since I know I will be moving soon something that’s large and not being used is a bad option.

People shake my hand. Photos are taken. I put the tweets in the car and call my friend Mr. W, who is not there to let him know what I won (and I admit gloat).

I stay for about another 30 or 45min and decided to leave.

At home I check on the price and they are going new for 1200.

A few days later I post it for sale. $800 plus shipping.

I get a mail really pissed off mail from W telling me that I shouldn’t have posted them for sale on the same boards as the folks from the group post. Or at least waited for a few months. It appeared that I caused a storm with my post.

Some of the people from the group are angry because I’m trying to sell it. They also felt (per W) that since the guy who offered it came from Europe that it was extra special or I’m trying to screw them out of it. I tell him I posted it on more than one board and anyway that one board was the most likely to have readers who would want to purchase it.

I admit now I should have waited to post as the group clearly was angry. Perhaps I should have given it back but that never occurred to me.. It was won in a raffle not a charity auction. Sorry if they are mad but each of them can easily afford to buy this item.

Anyway. The upshot is neither W or K were talking to me for two months and only now this last week have I been in contact with them.

I’m not sure what to make of this. Is this the usual “people deep in there hobbies are half crazy” lol. Which I should understand by now as I am one of them.
Or is this another of my “captain tact” has struck again events.

In some ways I feel that (and not just with W or K) I am expected to overlook others rudeness or lack of thought but if it’s from me…well we have problems.
I’ll have to think on this. If it’s really me then fine. I can examine and change my behavior..

Funny thing. I had a good time.

Life as an ISTP

(Introvert, Sensor, Thinker, Perceiver)

People of this type tend to be logical, pragmatic and matter of fact; quiet, unassuming, and autonomous; realistic, pragmatic and aloof; impulsive and curious about the physical world; flexible and resourceful; objective and unemotional.

The most important thing to ISTPs is the freedom to act independently and follow their impulses.

Great careers for ISTPs

Here are just a few popular and often satisfying careers for people whose Personality Type is ISTP:

Assorted crap.
I don’t know what changes Miktar made on his LJ (if any) but it seems I’m now able to see his posts. (I’m relived) I can’t recall when that changed, Two years ago? I have some reading to do.

Friends and things:
Back on October I went to a diy audio event. They (this group) hold this once a year with an attendance of something like 75-100 people. They bring home brew turntables, cd players, tube amps, speakers etc. They hook there equipment up and everyone gives a listen. Some sound good and others..not so much.

I’ve attended this twice now and find it a good afternoon. However I also find myself of two minds about it.
On one paw these folks are the authentic deal. They truly are dedicated to making their equipment sound good (insert your definition of “good” here) and to a lesser extent (my guess) viable in that it doesn’t blowup, fail, be truly ugly, non user friendly.

It is important to understand that this IS where high performance audio started. Half crazed, deeply focuses tinkerer’s in the basements or if you’re in the UK. Potting sheds. With tissue boxes on their feet (see Howard huges) working on already established systems or circuits (or nothing I suppose) to push them to better performance. Some of these folks are able to expand their hobby and ideas into viable produces that you and I might buy. Just off the top of my head, infinity speakers, (started in a garage in California), mark levinson, bowers and wilkins, etc.

I only say this because..(on the other paw) not everyone can be an astronaut. It takes time to be sure your ideas are not just one fix to a huge list of issues. You need a balanced design that’s market valid. Some of the folks are so obsessed with one or two issues that they miss the bigger picture.

But..i digress..

More later on the “big tweeter blowup of 08”

my Hd started to croak about a month ago. I could hear it not moving the heads off the magnet head lock. Have to restart twice or more sometimes. Anyway I was running out of time. Not feeling like I wanted to build. I ordered a dimension 530 with 2x2.5 gig dual core from dell. Wiped it of the vista home basic worthless and put on xp sp3. Added an additional 750 stat drive. Later this week I’m going to put in the two gigs my brother gave me for xmas for a total of 4. Though I understand that xp only sees like 3.25 of it. I like the box. After digging around for a solution to moving the data over. I found I had a copy of ghost and up ghosted. Worked out well. the new box is very quite. More on this later.

Other stuff soon.

Work: team lead. (mostly good). More later.

hello Toby.
